Eligibility Requirements

Medical Education

• Graduate of an accredited medical school
• MD or DO degree
  • International medical graduates must hold ECFMG certification

Residency Training

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency (4 years total)
• PGY-1: Internship (typically includes internal medicine and neurology)
• PGY-2 to PGY-4: Core psychiatry training
• Program director attestation of clinical competence

Medical Licensure

• Full, unrestricted medical license
• Licensed in at least one U.S. state or territory

ABPN Psychiatry Certification Examination

• Computer-based
• Multiple-choice format
